The Good Housing = Good Health Program intends to leverage and promote existing housing resources to enhance housing stability and total health results throughout Michigan. Having a safe and safe and secure location to live is very important for both physical and mental health well-being. By investing resources into housing stabilization services, the program strives to holistically support people and families, boost quality of life, and build healthier, more durable communities.
Program Goals:
Increasing housing gain access to: The program will improve real estate gain access to for eligible families, especially those that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
Providing education and resources: Educational resources and assistance will be offered to avoid the loss of real estate, making sure individuals and households have the tools required to secure and maintain safe and budget-friendly real estate.
Strengthening health and wellness: The program aims to improve the health and wellness of families facing the highest barriers to securing and keeping safe, cost effective housing.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) in partnership with Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) and local health partners released the Good Housing = Health Program on October 1, 2023. The program term is October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024. Additional funding will be looked for to continue efforts.

Multi-sector Collaboration
As part of the overarching SDOH Strategy, multisector partnership is crucial to supporting community-led efforts. By partnering with MSHDA, the MDHHS Policy and Planning Office has developed the Good Housing = Good Health Program to increase and promote housing stabilization resources and services across the state. Funding has been provided to regional health partners to work with and maintain community health workers (also referred to as navigators) who will proactively seek opportunities to link Michigan citizens to housing resources and services. This effort showcases the importance of collective partnerships in producing healthier and flourishing neighborhoods.

The Good Housing = Good Health Program provides a large range of real estate and SDOH assistance consisting of education, housing navigation and outreach, referrals, shelter diversion services, MI Bridges advantages help and other outreach services administered by regional health departments and community-based companies.
